Summary
Within the discourse of sustainable development, tourism is a new option that has
been proposed to the Third World, promoted by international agencies as a
development alternative involving environmental, socioeconomic and cultural
benefits, both locally and nationally.
Sinaloa are documented in 62 fishing communities bringing together more than
14,000 coastal fishermen and 141 fishing production cooperatives. One of the
problems that these communities have the dependence on a single economic
activity, which takes place six months of the year; since the species exploitation
purposes closed to reproduce and / or preserved. The other months of the year
can become areas of opportunity to use the knowledge of fishermen, physical
infrastructure and working capital of fishing cooperatives innovating in activities
such as tourism. Empirical evidence shows that union members carry out activities
such as boat rides, food, sport fishing, among others, and although made
empirically generated a positive impact to earn extra income.
This document is part of a larger research aimed to make a diagnosis about the
potential of tourism resources of the fishing camps in the state of Sinaloa. The
research is qualitative and techniques used to obtain information were semi-
structured interviews with partners, housewives and directors of fisheries
cooperatives, along with an observation guide.
